Year of Mercy 2015-2016

The students and families of KCS have participated in several community outreach projects fulfilling Corporal Works of Mercy during this “Year of Mercy” as declared by Pope Francis. Thanks to the organizational efforts of our Community Outreach Chairwoman, Gina Nuzzo, these accomplishments include:

  • Feeding the hungry through Mary’s Meals, clothing the naked through coat drive for Family of Woodstock,
  • visiting the sick by taking a field trip to Mountain Valley Manor nursing home and playing bingo with the residents there
  • aiding the imprisoned by making rosaries to be delivered to inmates.

In addition to these projects, our students participated in the

  • 5th Annual National Dress 4 Pediatric Cancer Day sponsored by the Go4 the Goal Foundation, a non-profit whose mission is to improve the lives of children with cancer.
  • Our Girl Scout Troop organized “The Million Misfit Sock March” at KCS, helping students to celebrate their differences while wearing mismatched socks and to take a stand against bullying.
  • Again this year, our students sent care packages to several underprivileged children on an international level through Operation Christmas Child.
  • The students and families of KCS were among the top contributors to the BOLD Food Drive which is a collaboration of The Notre Dame Club of the Mid-Hudson Valley, Catholic Charities Community Services of Dutchess County and Ulster County Catholic Charities.
  • We have also held food drives benefiting People’s Place and Ulster County Catholic Charities’ Food Pantry.
